David Fleming speaks with Dr. Lisa Lindley, CEO of Coachella Valley Symphony Orchestra. We'll get a bit of the history of the symphony, some of the associated programs - like the Youth Symphony, and a bit about Dr. Lindley herself. And of course - the final concert of the season - The Best of Stage and Screen. This one draws from the classic as well as contemporary and is always a crowd favorite. Top Dog/Underdog…

This is the story of two African-American brothers, Lincoln and Booth. Lincoln actually works putting on white-face night after night portraying Abraham Lincoln. Booth is trying to get out of the life of a street hustle.

Both are trying to make their way in society, dealing with work, women, racism, as well as a troubled upbringing.

KVCR’s Champ Chipman recently interviewed Gregg Daniel, directing this Pulitzer Prize winning play at the Pasadena Playhouse, running through March 23.

Last week we got a bit of an introduction to Daniel. On this edition of the program we’ll hear more about the play, as well as the many opportunities it provides on stage and off.

This edition of KVC-Arts begins with David Fleming finding out more about the IE PRINT AND ZINE FEST – coming up March 15^th in Fontana, in conversation with organizer Frankie Gutierrez. Later in the program Champ Chipman introduces us to Gregg T. Daniel, directing Top Dog/Underdog, currently running at The Pasadena Playhouse.

David Fleming continues his conversation with Charles Kelly about "Phase II." This cd is being marketed to the world of smooth jazz, and is already charting, though Charles made an active decision with this release to challenge the notion OF smooth jazz. David and Charles spoke at least a bit about each track on the disc, so the conversation was divided into two shows.

David Fleming speaks with Michael Feinstein, at McCallum Theatre March 1st, with "Because of You: My Tribute to Tony Bennett." On the 2nd, down to San Diego. We hear a bit about Bennett - the music, the stylistic approach, the story telling aspect... We'll also hear about Gershwin, both George and Ira. Feinstein was Ira's assistant for some 6 years and has a few stories. Among those - having uncovered some otherwise lost Gershwin tunes!

On this edition of KVC-Arts, David Fleming speaks with Doug Nagel. For many years Doug was a part-time resident of the region while teaching voice and leading choral ensembles in Montana. He decided it was time to retire retired and moved to the region full time... and has started a choral ensemble - and is teaching voice. We'll hear about Coachella Valley Classical Voices - the history, and some upcoming performance opportunities.

Many know Emmet Cahill from the current iteration of Celtic Thunder, filling the spot when Paul Byron left the group. Working around his Celtic Thunder tours and recording dates, Emmet HAS been touring as a solo performer as well for the last several years. His latest tour has a stop in Palm Desert February 5th as part of the St. Margaret's Friends of Music Concert Series. David Fleming speaks with Emmet just a BIT about Celtic Thunder but focused much of the time on his solo career. Namely, some of the tunes he tends to bring out - which is a mix of American Standards and Irish classics. Songs which have a storytelling aspect to them and tend to transport the listener to another time and place.
