KVCR's Teen Weeks of Film
KVCR's Teen Weeks of Film is an event where local high school students developed and produced a short film documentary centered on topics most important to them as a way to spread awareness.
Thank you to our sponsor The California Endowment for making this KVCR program possible.

About the Program
Over ten weeks, students go from their first studio tour to a finished documentary — learning cameras, lighting, interviewing, and editing along the way.

Week 1Orientation Day
Meet your fellow filmmakers, tour KVCR Studios and SBVC's Film & TV department, and get an overview of the 10-week documentary filmmaking program.

Week 2Camera & Audio Workshop
Learn the fundamentals of camera operation, audio recording, documentary storytelling, shot composition, and essential filmmaking terminology through hands-on training.

Week 3Camera & Lighting Workshop
Develop practical lighting techniques for interviews and b-roll while planning your documentary through storyboards, mood boards, and interview scheduling.

Week 4Professional Headshots & Film Introductions
Receive professional headshots and record on-camera introductions to present yourself and your documentary project.

Week 5Final Production Week
Put your training into action by filming interviews, capturing b-roll, and gathering the footage needed for your documentary.

Week 6Post Production
Begin the editing process by organizing footage, reviewing your interviews, and preparing your project for editing.

Week 7Post Production II
Create your first edit by making basic cuts and assembling the foundation of your documentary.

Week 8Post Production III
Build a rough cut by refining your story structure, pacing, and sequence of interviews.

Week 9Post Production IV
Complete your final cut by polishing edits, improving transitions, adjusting audio, and making final creative revisions.

Week 10Final Week
Finalize your documentary, complete all finishing touches, submit your finished film, and celebrate the completion of the Teen Weeks of Film program.
