Digital Transition
Switch to Digital: February 17, 2009
Questions About DTV?
It’s enough to make even the most technologically adept person’s head swim. Between “over the air” broadcast vs. cable and satellite TV, Standard Definition vs. High Definition signals, regular cable vs. digital cable, it can sometimes seem like it requires an engineering degree to figure out how to get the most out of you TV viewing experience. Throw in the fact that Congress has mandated the shutting off of all analog television transmissions as of February 17, 2009, and that might only add to the confusion.
Relax. You don’t need to spend a ton of money on a TV in order to sail through the planned digital TV conversion without missing a moment of your favorite TV shows. KVCR is already broadcasting four, free digital channels. So once you make the switch, you can start watching DTV on KVCR and many other stations right away – and take full advantage of better picture and sound quality.

Step 2: Get Hooked Up and Enjoy
As seen in the chart above, there are several ways to get digital television. Choose the option that most closely matches your situation, then follow these basic instructions to start enjoying the great pictures and sound of digital TV:

Option 1: Use a new digital converter box with your old TV and antenna
If you currently use an analog TV and an antenna (or rabbit ears) to get an over-the-air signal, you need to purchase a converter box to receive digital channels. Once you've hooked up your converter box, you can start watching all four KVCR digital channels for free!
Note:
You will need a converter box for each analog television in your home. Find out more about how to order your converter box coupons.

Option 2: Use a new digital TV (with built-in digital tuner) with your existing antenna
If you have a TV with a built-in digital tuner, you can receive digital signals over the air for free using your existing antenna (or rabbit ears). Just turn on your TV and start watching – it's all free!
Note:
You can watch digital TV over the air with either a standard-definition or a high-definition TV set. You do not need a high-definition TV (HDTV) to watch digital broadcasts.

Option 3: Use new or old tv with a digital subscription to cable or satellite
If you subscribe to cable or satellite, you can receive their digital services on your existing TV set – they are compatible with both analog and digital TVs.
Note:
In some areas, satellite companies do not provide local television channels, or the companies may charge extra to receive local stations. If you currently pick up local stations using an antenna, your TV set may need to be upgraded with a converter box if it does not have a built-in digital tuner.
