KVCR-TV, FM -

The backbone of public
radio and television is its membership. Monthly and sometimes
more, public television and radio stations have pledge drives to
encourage viewers to support a cause that can work to benefit
everyone.
KVCR-TV Channel 24 and
KVCR-FM (91.9), based at San Bernardino Valley College, is using the
Internet to give viewers and listeners a more convenient way to join
the growing list of members.
By purchasing membership,
KVCR can continue offering the same programs it has offered for many
years. When the call goes out for pledges through the television
or radio station, it is the stations' Web site (http://kvcr.org) that
offers a good way to sign up.
Rick Dulock, development
associate for KVCR, sees a definite market for the Web site.
"It seems to get used more by the radio members than the
television members," he said. "We just passed our
20,000 hit mark."
Dulock said the site has
potential interest to both people interested in the Public
Broadcasting Service and National Public Radio through its links to
PBS online and NPR online, as well as to people familiar with the
station and wanting to know more about it.
According to Dulock,
people can "find out what's produced right here in our Channel 24
studios." They can also find "restaurant reviews on
'Let's Dine Out'" or "learn to draw with Jim Gilbert on
'Cartoon Factory.'" They can "keep up with current
events in the San Bernardino-Riverside area through 'Empire Living' or
"revisit classic television programs with 'I Remember
Television.'"
Kids can find "games
and links to PBS kids' sites," according to Dulock. "PBS has
always been a safe place for children." The site is updated
everyday. The links to the news bureaus for NPR and other links
keep surfers informed and up to date on the latest news.
New to the site is a
tribute to the late Rep. George E. Brown Jr., D-San Bernardino, whom
Dulock calls "our good friend and longtime supporter of public
broadcasting."
