Health Dialogues on KVCR FM
Overview
Health Dialogues, a special series from KQED Public Radio in San Francisco, engages listeners in an ongoing discussion of California health care issues that are important to the underserved: children, low-income residents, minorities, people with disabilities, immigrants, and rural and migrant worker communities in particular. The series seeks to generate and facilitate dialogue between communities, health care providers and policy-makers. This special grant-funded project will help KVCR spotlight important health issues in our area.
Programming
The centerpieces of the Health Dialogues series are monthly, one-hour shows hosted by Scott Shafer. The programs include special reports, moderated discussion with a panel of experts, and conversations with Californians who have been affected by the health issue being discussed.
To support the project, KVCR provides local perspectives on the same topic. Each month KVCR FM features voices from the Inland Empire on Health Matters, which airs in the same week as the statewide program. Tune in to KVCR FM 91.9 on Tuesday at 6:50 p.m. during All Things Considered; the 8-minute segment repeats the next day at 7:50 a.m. during Morning Edition. The topic will also be featured on KVCR TV in the same week – Wednesday at 7:00 PM.

Evidence suggests that strong families and intricate social ties may keep recent immigrants healthier, at least for a while. These protective factors seem to erode the longer newcomers live in the U.S.
