The suspect in the Denver-area movie theatre shooting late last night is a native of San Diego, and a graduate of the University of California, Riverside.

24 year old James Eagan Holmes is in custody in Aurora, Colorado. Holmes allegedly entered a packed theatre and fired shots into the crowd watching a midnight screening of the new Batman movie at an Aurora multiplex. 12 people are dead, and dozens are injured.

UC Riverside issued a statement this morning confirming that Holmes graduated from UCR in Spring, 2010, with a Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience. The University said it could not release any further information about Holmes’ record as a UCR student.

Other reports today say that Holmes recently dropped out of a doctoral program in neuroscience at the University of Colorado.

The Press Enterprise reports that while he was at UCR, Homes lived both on and off campus, including in a now vacant apartment in Riverside. Records searches showed no criminal or court activity for Holmes during the time he attended UCR. Reports say his last known address in Southern California was San Diego, where his mother still lives.

She was reportedly notified this morning by a Denver TV station that her son was the suspected shooter, and is now on her way to Colorado.
