The Perseid meteor shower is an annual multi-night event where sky watchers can witness meteors entering the atmosphere and lighting-up as they streak across the night sky. Light pollution in and around populated areas can seriously inhibit the enjoyment of this annual event, so lots of folks head out of town in order to escape the city lights. Those who found the darkest skies witnessed up 150 meteors an hour during the peak of the Perseid shower which fell in the early morning hours of August 12 and 13th this year.
