The sunny, hot weather drew big crowds of winter-weary residents to a number of outdoor activities around the Inland Empire this weekend.

In downtown Riverside on Saturday, it was the 7th annual Salute to Veterans parade.  Laura Densmore is one of the parade organizers, she said,

“Oh, it’s a really fun event,” said Laura Densmore, one of the parade organizers.  “The people that are in the parade look forward to it every year a lot.  And then the spectators, they really admire our veterans both past and present.  And so I think this gives them an opportunity not to have to go to a cemetery to honor veterans, but to see people that are still up and moving and having fun that they can say thank you to.”

Also on Saturday, the youth advocacy group Casa of San Bernardino held its 5th Annual Run/Walk, in recognition of April as Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month.

And on Sunday, the region celebrated with the Route 66 Food Truck Festival. Organizer Cliff Young said, “I’ve invited 22 of my favorite gourmet food trucks.  These are trucks you see on Food Network and Bravo.  They’re all coming over, gonna park in the outfield of the stadium.  We get to sit all over the grass and in the bleachers and enjoy their food.”
