Five major publishers are objecting to restrictions the Justice Department wants to place on Apple for colluding with them to fix ebook prices. The proposal, which has not yet been approved by the judge in the case, would force Apple to end existing contacts with the publishers, in addition to several other measures that Apple called "draconian and punitive."

Reporting net income of $5 billion in the second quarter of 2013, mortgage backer Freddie Mac says it has extended its streak of profitable quarters to seven in a row. The earnings are the second-highest in its history, the company said in its quarterly report Wednesday.

The Washington Post Co. will sell its flagship newspaper and one of the most respected news organizations in the country to Amazon.com founder Jeffrey P. Bezos, the company announced in a press release. The Post has been a family-owned business for four generations.
